La Fin du Filth?

I have paid no attention to American politics for about a year now, since I am convinced America is finished, and deserves to be. My sorrowful acceptance of America's demise has had a spectacularly non-sorrowful unintended consequence for me personally—the palpable improvement in my psychological well-being from not watching Fox News and its hyperventilating, quacking, bloviating, brainless presenters. Tonight, tantalised by a headline about the Republicans' capture of the Senate, I tuned in for the first time in months—to hear hyperventilating, quacking, bloviating, brainless Julie Banderas and other esthetic affronts pontificating about the Republican resurgence. The fact that this "resurgence" will not save America is underscored by the cerebrally bereft nature of the entities proclaiming it on American television. Any nation that, qua television viewers, tolerates such atrocities is a nation that will, qua voters, elect, then re-elect, Barack Obama—and any nation that does that cannot survive. The Republicans are hopeless—as hopeless as Politically Correct OrgOism. There is no Ronald Reagan to despatch the latter-day Jimmy Carter, Obamarx (or rather, his spiritual heir, Hillary), to the ignominious oblivion he/she deserves; and even if there were such a Reagan, there are not enough voters who would get his message.

All of the above is said in the profound hope that I'm wrong.
