Interesting Insight Into OrgOists

On a lark I just Googled "pro-Trump Objectivists" and I found this guy:

https://curi.us/1920-objectivi...

Sane comments. I then clicked on the link on his page that reads "Harry Binswanger Letter Posts". It contains a list of all his posts to HB's list. It lists his debates and discussions with HB and the various HB commenters. His November 9th post election comment is very informative. Since his website is public I am going to post smaller sections of it here:

> [Ayn Rand] opposed even Reagan. It is not possible to say what she would have thought, but my best guess is that she would have been violently opposed to Trump.

This is Binswanger's view on what Rand would have thought of Trump. This guy, Eliot Temple, responds:

Reagan was religious and that was one of her major complaints about him. Trump basically isn’t religious. And Trump likes abortion and won’t be going after it (he even defended Planned Parenthood in the GOP primary debates.)

And the American left were less evil back when Rand was alive. I think HB underestimates how bad the Democrats are today, by a lot. But I think Rand wouldn’t have misjudged them and would have seen the need to defeat them.

Good comment. He is right about Binswnager's faulty view of the Left. I have noticed that mainstream O'ists just don't see the evil of the Left the way I do. Here is a possible reason why. Mr. Temple goes on to talk about Saul Alinsky and George Soros. But then you get this:

For Alinsky, see the free pamphlet: Barack Obama’s Rules For Revolution: The Alinsky Model

These are very important and everyone should read them. Most people know very little about Soros and Alinsky, even though they are major players in the fate of our country.

It’s very easy to misunderstand today’s left if you rely on mainstream media sources like the New York Times or Fox News. Thanks to the internet, tons of people now know the the mainstream media is dishonest and you can’t trust everything they say. But people still underestimate how slanted the coverage is, and how hard it is to get an objective understanding of what’s going on without following a lot of information from elsewhere.

Yes this is so true. You can't really learn about the reality of today's politics and culture if you just rely on CNN or Fox News. You NEED internet sources, especially if you are going to really understand youth culture. Or "generation airhead" as Lindsay calls it. But lets see the conclusion from Mr. Temple:

In my understanding, HB thinks Hillary and Trump are comparably bad. Even if all HB’s accusations against Trump are true, that’s still far too kind to Hillary. I’m guessing the media coverage plays a large role in this and HB hasn’t read all the facts about her that I have.

Here is one little piece of the evil that is Hillary. There’s so much more, but you have to know where to look, and spend a lot of time on it, and stop having any respect for the mainstream media and other conventional societal elites. But HB is immersed in a social circle that recommends Nate Silver, and he’s commented on the New York Times as if they were reputable, rather than to trash the hell out of them. The view from over there is too distorted to understand Trump, Obama or Hillary. There’s so many other things one really needs to know to get this right. I’ll just close with this: The Black Book of the American Left.

That is an interesting comment. And I wonder if one of the reasons that older O'ist like Binswanger and Brook, etc hold the views they do is because they are relying on the major news networks for their information. The arguments O'ists have made against Trump are clearly misinformed. Its as if O'ists haven't seen his proposals, many of which are very pro-free market, pro-gun rights, etc. If you follow the alternative media, you know these things.

In short we are seeing a generation gap at play here in addition to the other problems that exist within Objectivism. Now this wouldn't explain the idiocy coming from a twenty-something like Stuart Hyashi. But it does possibly explain the obtuseness of someone like Binswanger. Time and again I have wondered why Binswanger isn't informed about immigrant welfare usage and voting patterns. Hasn't he seen Stefan Molyneux videos? No, he hasn't. The most important information to be found today is not coming from the mainstream media. Sadly, many Objectivists are stuck in the past and they are fighting against an outdated version of the Left. Combine that with living in the fading all white areas (that are disappearing fast) and you get the wholesale cultural ignorance of Orthos and OrgOists.

As I say, interesting.
