In 1906, in Chapters from My Autobiography, Mark Twain wrote: "Figures often beguile me, particularly when I have the arranging of them myself; in which case the remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: 'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.'"
Perhaps appropriately, this quote from Benjamin Disraeli was itself a lie by Twain. But I can think of a worse verbal fraud: think-tank studies.
Here's a stunning array of ultra-serious and formal, intellectual studies from The Cato Institute about immigration to America and the West:

The upshot is: All those black, Hispanic, Muslim, and Third World illegal aliens to America, over the past half-century or so, commit crime, go on welfare, consume collective resources, and vote for Big Brother far less than native Americans. No doubt they're also more virtuous generally, as well as more pro-freedom, pro-capitalism, pro-libertarian, pro-American, and less racist than current white native citizens.
Well, now! In light of all these unimpeachable authorities from Cato, I just feel bad for myself that I'm such a moron, scumbag, xenophobe, and hopeless racist as to tend to think the opposite. It's sad that I'm such a white supremacist, and worshipper of the Ku Klux Klan and Adolph Hitler. Maybe in the afterlife, if I'm lucky, I can burn in hell forever to partially make up for all my terrible sins!
